Save Time, Save Money, Save Yourself A Headache.
When it comes to corporate compliance training, it’s very definitely not a case of “one size fits all”. By far the best results are obtained when you match training to the role and competency of the individual. This has a huge impact on training success – but also on the bottom line, in the shape of time and money savings.
By way of example, imagine the impact on the US economy if each employee spent just minutes on regulatory compliance training as opposed to the more common 2 hours per year. That’s a lot of hours and a lot of dollars saved!
To help you streamline your compliance training, here are some of the more effective tools that you can call on.
Role Profiling
This is where the learner is asked direct, factual questions such as “do you manage employees?; “are you a director?”; “do you work with overseas markets?”.
Based on the responses, recommendations are made on a list of learning topics that matches back to those things. For example, if the learner is a director, there may well be a need for specialized Insider Trading knowledge as part of the compliance training they require.
Diagnostic Assessment
This involves mapping the learning to the learners’ competency levels – and assessing what they already know. Among the benefits of running a diagnostic assessment is that it can help to shorten the overall time to study the training, as the learner only studies areas where help is needed or where there’s an understanding difficulty.
A simple, everyday example of this process in action would be a student revising for school exams. Surely it makes most sense to focus on the weaker subjects, which might be Science and History – but to allocate less time on French when you’re already top of the class in this subject?
Personalized Learning Portal
By including tools like Role Profiling and Diagnostic Assessments, you are giving the learner a personalized learning program for them to complete. The learner will be given their own personalized learning page – or learning portal – which will allow them to complete their unique training program with ease.
Infographic Cards
Other, simpler tools can be used in compliance training, including infographic cards which are effective visual aids that work very well on tablets or mobile devices. They’re an excellent form of visual checklist for the learner to refer back to and to use on the job.
Training Platforms
It may seem blindingly obvious, but it’s really important to ensure that the corporate compliance training tools used are supported by the platforms the learner is active on. A study conducted by Interactive Services with a large credit card provider client found that 90% of learners use desktop, 8% use a tablet and just 2% use a mobile phone device to complete their training.
The most important point to take from this is that if you had designed your compliance training for a mobile phone, you need to change and adapt the nature of the tool to suit the device.
When you take into account the significant development costs of this in terms of allowing for the correct navigation of a mobile interface – and the fact that certain content may not suit mobile – we generally find that desktop and tablet are still the most popular devices for workplace training and you should consider this prior to the development process.

It’s About the Right Tool for the Right Person at the Right Time
As compliance programs get bigger and more complex, the ability to profile and map training is becoming increasingly important. The use of specific tools to get the right training to the right people is crucial. The learning has to be specific to the particular job or role level of the individual – the same generic content won’t work for sales people and senior leaders, for example.
