Myers Briggs Personality Types in Compliance Training - Interactive Services

When you deliver a compliance training, it helps to know the personality mix of the employees you’re teaching. There are a number of tools that will help your employees learn about themselves, while assisting you in delivering a training that reaches everyone. One excellent classic test is the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI.

To learn their type, your employees will take an assessment online or with a qualified MBTI facilitator. The test gives each employee a four-letter code. There are 16 personality types. The forced-choice test will decide if they use Introversion or Extroversion, Sensing or iNtuition, Thinking or Feeling, and Judging or Perceiving. Types your employees could be include ESTJ or INFP.

Here’s a brief overview of the categories, and how to tailor a compliance training:

  • Extroverted employees get energy from being around other people. They’ll enjoy group trainings with opportunities to work together and get direct feedback from the teacher. On the other hand, introverts get energy from solitude. They’ll prefer to learn individually, in an online environment, or in a class with self-directed learning opportunities.
  • Sensing employees are practical and present-oriented. They’ll like trainings that clearly state the rules and procedures. Intuitive employees, however, are more big-picture and future oriented. They’ll like trainings that explain the bigger purpose of compliance, and allow them to think creatively about the rules.
  • Thinking employees use logic and facts to make decisions. They’ll want to know how the compliance rules logically benefit the company. On the contrary, feeling employees use values and subjectivity to make decisions. They’ll want to know the subjective, personal reasons for corporate compliance.
  • Judging employees like structure and order. They’ll like a well laid-out training with an outline that keeps to the goals and tasks at home. Perceiving employees are different – they like spontaneity and flexibility. These employees enjoy open-ended training with opportunity to improvise a little.
